Your skippers Matt and Pete are both colourful characters; they can spin a yarn about rescue experiences and the local seascape.
BORN TO LOVE THE SEA!
Meet The Life-Boys
Matt and Pete make expeditions exciting, colourful, safe and enjoyable for whoever comes on-board. They both have drive and passion about all things wet.
In fact every spare minute of their spare time is designated to feature the things they love, from Surf Life Saving and Search and Rescue to diving and fishing. To be able to share this sea faring fervour with others is a real privilege.
Matt’s hobby is Speed where he is a frequent racer in the Thundercat Racing Tour.
After BSc Honours Degree in Marine Navigation, Matt has followed his passion for the sea. He is a Surf Life Saving GB qualified (SLSGB) Trainer Assessor, Lifeguard, Inshore Rescue Boat Instructor and the Helm on the Cornwall Flood Rescue Team. He is also a volunteer for Newquay’s Search and Rescue Team and PADI Dive Instructor. Matt has been part of the water safety team for many events from the European Games, Red Bull events, SLSGB surf events, the Outdoor Swimming Society and the British Heart Foundation charity swims; providing boat and Jet Ski safety cover in surf, flat and swift water conditions.
Pete ‘the harbour rat’ is never out of the water, by trade he is a Marine Engineer and has successfully run his own business keeping our local fishing fleet up and running in all weathers. He has also run Padstow boatyard and successfully managed a 25m Ferry extension project.
Pete is an RNLI volunteer with the Newquay Lifeboat Crew, a qualified commercial helm and rescue diver. He has a vast experience in the marine industry and has built up extensive knowledge of our coastline. He is a qualified helm for Surf Life Saving GB and a qualified Helm of the Cornwall Flood Rescue Team.
His hobby is smashing through big waves in orange boats, the bigger the better in his opinion.
With a personality and history in her own right, Odyssey is a Humber Ocean Pro 7.5m RIB (Rigid-hulled Infaltable Boat) that was designed to an impeccably high specification for Marine Biologist, Monty Halls. Used in his TV Adventure ‘Shoals of Agulhas’ expedition to South Africa, it even bears the mark of a brush with a great white shark. Fully loaded and powered by a Suziki DF200AP four-stroke engine, Raymarine HybridTouch GPS & Radar.
As Monty said himself “There really is nothing like this boat anywhere in the UK, and possibly the world. It has been designed from the keel up for adventure and exploration.”
